Marmoucha is a tribe of the Middle Atlas mountains and the south of Morocco. The ‘Marmoucha’ have a lot of others names tribes. They also produce geometric tuareg mat with braided palm leaves. The palm leaves are crushed until to form a kind of vegetable fiber, then handwoven and covered with wool.
Highly influenced by the Beni Ouarain carpets with their black patterns on a white, beige background, they are incomparable high quality rugs. Before, the Marmoucha were know as colorful carpets, decorated with only abstract design.
The Berber weavers have always been excellent in the art of carpet weaving, and even if vintage rugs are extremely rare to find today, the tradition still continue to perpetuate.
