Large Unique Moroccan Pouf
Kilim Zemmour is produced by tightly interweaving the warp and weft strands of the weave to produce a flat surface with no pile. This is technically tapestry weave have a hard-wearing flat, perfect for a high traffic area and a home with pets. Originally, the kilim was made by the nomads of the south of the country and was served to protect the ground of the mosques, the tents, yurts and the litters of the camels. It is now used as well for covering the ground outdoor and indoor. Traditional kilims use patterns based on two simple geometric shapes: the triangle and the diamond. Although manufactured without hair, the kilim is very resistant because of the double weft which gives a tight weave. A great advantage with a kilim is that most of them are reversible.
Moroccan kilims are single-knot carpets highlighted. It is the fineness of the drawing and the quality of the tightening that matters. The patterns are geometric, the tones are ethnic and the texture is resistant and durable. Their rendering is more flexible and lighter.
Kilims are now very popular because they fit easily into elegant and minimalist environments. They also find their place in many homes thanks to their many possibilities of use. Many people like to hang their kilims on the wall or use them as bedspreads because most of them are lightweight.
In the past, this tribe were renowned for their warlike and plundering temper. Foreigners had to negotiate a payment to cross their territory to ensure their passage. Today, these rugs are one of the most reputed types of handwoven carpets in Morocco. The authenticity of these rugs is unquestionable and their value increases as the time goes by. Each item is a valuable piece of art representing a cultural heritage passed on from generation to generation.
For instance, the lozenge form is a pattern symbolizing the mother’s body or the whole female figure. Sometimes, we find in these weavings’ lozenges with extended sides, which may be interpreted as open sexual readiness of the woman, with sometimes a small element between one of the extended sides (representing the woman’s legs) which indicates a birth and represents a woman and her newborn baby.
The charm of Moroccan rugs are known worldwide and this is the only form of art that the women have perfected in the course of centuries
Moroccan rug is the silent writing without words of the weavers. Most of the women living in isolated villages never got the chance to go to school and learn how to write or read. Their stunning rugs are the only way for them to express their feelings. Marriage is the high point and turning point in her life, when she leaves her family in early life, to bear children in new surroundings. It’s clear that this capital event must be recorded inside the rug. The Berber woman is closely linked to her carpet. She weaves and knots at her own loom at home in the village. She is then actively creative and work freestyle with only her experience and patience. The particular knot allows her, while remaining tied to the traditional forms of her tribe, to introduce her own intuition and imagination, her wishes and cares in her work.
